My dear salary

It has been a month since I last met you. You looked amazing in that green crisp dress of yours. Perfectly shaped. Slim body, Ageless. Your aura is better than the smell of any perfume I know. But I think your rate of growth is very slow. May be you are a  dwarf and you just do not increase beyond a point. May be you should start taking complan . It is famous for making many children taller, stronger and sharper. Or you can even try my favourite Bournvita. Bournvita little champs. It contains DHA which makes brain sharp. Your edges, though, are already very sharp. But with me, you are just a kid. I like you more than your cousin Diwali bonus. But have you heard of your step sister 'expenses'?

It is increasing exponentially month by month. And you? Look at yourself! Aren't you ashamed?   Your rate of increase is only logarithmic. Dear salary, if you flip through the pages of history, you will find that the only member of your family that has grown considerably is your step sister expenses. It is high time you do something about it. Your brother 'bank balance' is, I am sure, suffering from mal-nutrition. It is losing inches day after day. Why don't you give him something to eat? Your step sister is torturing him. May be you need to wake up and ask a doctor to check bank balance. As if this is not enough, your step brothers 'rate of interest' and 'loan' are making people's life miserable. Your step siblings are like rahu and ketu- decreasing the growth of your very capable bank balance brother. To check this I think only your father 'increment' can help. But do you ever get to meet him? I mean I find him extremely busy. He is visible only once in a year. What the hell does he do rest of the year? Wait for his own increment? Your father is a miser by the way. Does not give anything to anyone. He should remember that charity begins at home.

Enough of it! I am getting head ache. But hey salary! Hold on!  Head aches too result in expenses!

So dear salary, I am deciding to stop worrying about you. I am going to make 'intelligence' and 'hard work' my friends. You can think of marrying hard work. I have heard he is a fruit seller. And all his fruits are very sweet. Intelligence is hard work's sister. And unlike your case, they both care for each other. In case you require to stop the expenses of buying complan or Bournvita, you can marry him . History bears testimony to the fact that with hard work by your side, your growth has been exponential. And who knows your father might end up giving you a large share of his fortune!

So dear salary, what are you waiting for? Run!

How are you?

Small things give us pleasure and getting a weekend of complete four days is definitely not a small thing. After months of tiring, staggering, and over timing weekdays, it feels even better than the Diwali bonus to have an extended weekend. Mind begins to plan a number of things. Sleeping like a devil tops the list followed by shopping, watching movies, reading novels, eating, partying with friends, etc. It wants to have every single cup of cake. We want to enjoy as if these are our lives’ final four days. And what if in these happy holidays, a good old friend of yours calls you?  Feels like Diwali bonus in addition to the extended weekend!

But what if you do not get to execute any of the plans you had planned? And what if you end up looking at your phone pleading it to ring at least once? At least one of your friends should call you up! There should be someone who misses you! But, sadly, people remember others only when they are sad. Who has time otherwise? You say NO ONE. I say EVERYONE.

You do not have to take out your complete one day or one hour to remember your friend. You do not have to leave your work to visit him/her! One phone call or one text message can do wonders. It wouldn’t cost millions. But people might argue that texting is not equivalent to talking. Correct? Wrong! It is all a matter of priorities. See, it has been just ten to fifteen years in India since mobile phones took over letter writing. Before that, letters used to be the most prominent medium of communication. People used to wait for letters from their near and dear ones eagerly. Postmen were treated as Gods. People would write as if they were talking to their loved ones in personal. Family, friends and relatives were their priorities. And every word of the letter had an emotion associated with it. But it was a slow means of communication. However, today we have access to far better and plenty of lightening fast means of communication. They allow us to connect to each other anytime, anywhere, anyplace. But our priorities have changed. We would rather sit in front of the television and watch ‘Comedy nights with Kapil’ than ask our friend ‘how are you?’ We have become selfish and our lives self centered.

Let me ask you one thing. Later in your lives when you turn old and bones become weak, what satisfaction will your successful professional life bring if you will not have anyone to share the joy with? You can pick up books to keep yourself busy. But books do not talk! They do not have emotions. They are abstract. You can paint pictures but paint brushes cannot bring colors to your black and white life. You can adopt a pet but it will not speak your language. You can socialize on social networking sites but that is all virtual existence.

Friends, man is, by default, a social animal. He requires someone to love him, care for him, and a person who is very special to him. Professional life earns you success while personal life brings you joy and happiness. So let us all call our friends to share that happiness. Let us ask them ‘What’s up?’

New year’s wish list

As the governments get ready for a grandeur adieu to the year 2013,
And a ravishing welcome to the chilling 2014
I blot my yellow parchment paper to disclose enlisting of my ambitious wish list.

Scarlet sky above and twinkling stars in the sea,
Misty fog enveloping the desolate streets of Delhi.

The stage is all set velvet curtains wrapping the side,
Booming music to be played and glasses hold wine wide.

The intoxicating wind driving me engrossed and complete with delirious queer,
The points begin to dot themselves through my pen and long paper.

Embarking upon the first may I try to unravel,
My desire to own a wand and be the mistress of this gravel.

Wish to fill colors in the canvass of splendid mother nature,
Second is the desire to beautify all its lush green  valleys and lusting curvature.

Thoughts fly amidst birds pleading plants not to protest,
May sparrows have umpteen branches to cement their nest.

May blue be the waters and sand be on the crest,
Third for the fishes to have a graceful swim and take a deep rest.

A hope to spread happiness: loads and loads of tonnes,
Fourth for us may we always be humans.

In the dwellings of millions may world economy thunder,
A will to employ every mind and halt loss due to hunger.

Sixth scrambling on the roll is for the wars to be formidable,
May google check in a gadget to make people more amiable.

Seventh on the parol is a patrol on crime,
May Einstein be reincarnated to win mighty time.

Dagger upon people, may they own what they prudently deserve,
Heaven bless them with intelligence’s golden reserve.

The ending wish is may all these listings be fulfilled,
May electric be the moment my wishes are distilled!

Making friends feel special

You are strong enough
But face an accident very tough,
Your friend consoles you even on your cough
But you insult him by a reply very rough
‘I will manage, I am hard enough!’

You may be good and very knowledgeable,
Though a failure makes you extremely unstable,
Your friend comes and tries to enable,
Your morale and understands like an understandable,
But you hurt him again and say, ‘I will manage, I am capable!’

You may be brave and owned with dare,
But still feel lonely and always in despair,
Your friend comes and showers upon all the care,
You leave no opportunity to hurt him and say,
‘I will manage, hard times have taught me how to fair!’

Instead of ‘I will manage’ why don’t we say
‘I will manage with my friends on my bay’
Though we will solve our issues on our own,
Yet your presence will make it a complete different play
And your absence might take us to a totally alien way
It is only togetherness which allows beautiful memories to stay!

Bunny’s eight hours without mom

Bunny: Mom! Where is my laptop?
                Mom:   It’s on the table!
Bunny: Where? I can’t see it.
Mom:   See here it is! You already have four eyes. Do you need more?

Mom:   Honey! when did you last organize your room and wardrobe?
                Bunny: Umm… I think just two-three days ago. December 5, 2013.
Mom:   Checkout your room cleaning video on youtube. Verify the date.
                            It is December 5, 2011.
Bunny:  But mom! It is already neat and tidy!
Mom:    No TV and facebook from now onwards!
Bunny:  Room will be cleaned in one hour mom. J

                After one hour-
Bunny:  Mom! It’s done. You may enter.
Mom:    Good. I am going to my aunt’s place and will be back in eight hours.
                            Will you manage?
Bunny:  (Confidently). Of course mom! I am 15 now! Will definitely manage.

After two hours of mom leaving-
Bunny:  Hello mom! It’s me! Do you remember where my blue Jeans are?
Mom:    You organized your wardrobe just now. Right?
Bunny:   I know but I can’t find them anywhere here. L
Mom:    Second cabinet, fifth row from the left, second from top.
                Bunny:  Got it mom!

                After three hours thirty minutes-
Bunny:   Hello mom! It’s me again! I have already eaten all what you had made.
                Mom:    All?
Bunny:  Yeah that’s right mom. Four chapattis, rice and daal.
Mom:    I have soaked some rajma in water.
Just add two cups of water in the cooker and boil them till it whistles thrice.
Rest is there in the recipe book.
                Bunny:  Alright mom! Love you.

                After five hours:
                Bunny:  What’s up mom!
                Mom:    Yes honey!
Bunny:   (Happily) Um…Mom I managed to find the pressure cooker.
                Mom:    That’s good.
Bunny:   But I am kinda stuck somewhere.
                Mom:    What’s the issue?
Bunny:    As told by you, I added two cups of water in the rajma and
                             placed the cooker for boiling.
It has been 90 minutes and no whistle in the cooker yet.
Mom:    Did you cover the cooker with a lid?
Bunny:  Why? You did not mention this in the procedure!

                After six hours:
Bunny:   Sorry mom, I am disturbing you.
                Mom:     No. Tell what happened?
Bunny:   Um… Tomorrow is my physics test. Electro-magnetic induction. Chapter 10.
                Mom:     Okay. All set?
Bunny:   Yeah. Almost. Just one issue.
                Mom:     What’s that?
Bunny:   Just found out I have lost my physics book volume 2.
Will have to miss the class.
Mom:     Chapter 10 is in volume 1 and it is in first cabinet, third column,
                             fourth from bottom.
                Bunny:   Really? L
                Mom:     Check it out.

                After seven hours:
Bunny:  Hey mom! Missing you J.
                Mom:    Come to the point.
Bunny:  Can I go for hangout with my friends?
Mom:    Are you over with chapter 10?
                Bunny:  Catch you later mom.

                After eight hours:
Bunny:   Hey mom! Done with chapter 10. Can I go now?
Wait! Someone is on the door.
                Bunny opens the door.
                Bunny:   Hi mom!
                Mom:     Hi! All okay?
                Bunny:   Yup.
Mom:     I’ll get a glass of water.
Bunny:   Mom! I am done with chapter 10. Can I go now?
Mom:     I find some rajma stains everywhere in the kitchen.
                             Please help me clean them.
                Bunny:   But mom!
Mom:     No chats with girlfriend from now onwards.
Bunny:   (Angrily). Alright. Where is the cleaning cloth?
Mom:     You are wearing it as your T-shirt.
